Help with cosplay!

I have been taking about it for years. I want to cosplay and I keep putting off trying to make one or putting one together. So I feel number 1, if I announce it it will make me get my butt in gear and number 2 if I start then I won't be wishy washy on who to cosplay as. So for my first one I'm going with Cheria from Tales of Graces.



So since this is my first attempt I was looking for help. I think I can pull off the skirt either making it with my mom's help or finding a pleated purple skirt and adding the lace to the bottom. The shirt on the other hand is going to be a bit more difficult. I was wondering if someone knew of where I could find a white shirt similar to this one that I can alter? Something with a tall collar, puffy sleeves that possible flair out. If they don't flair I think I can make it work as I can cut the sleeves up to the top and make the black insert instead of putting the black right over it. Which might be easier anyways. Either that or could someone point me in the direction of a good sewing pattern lol. The red chest piece looks like it might be doable as it's just a few shapes put together and I have made a shirt in the past that had a corset back, so the sides I think I could do.

I think the butterfly part is going to be the hardest to do. I can't think of anyway to do that and have it look good other than some laser cutting machine which I don't have access too. Any ideas?

Am I getting in over my head? Maybe, but if I don't try I will never know my limitations or hopefully just what I can accomplish.

I am aware I can purchase this cosplay online from several different places, however I'm not happy with what I see. Sure Mine not be as good, but at least I'm making it myself to my specifications of what I think the character should look like and it might be cheaper as well. Plus I will get the gratification that I did it.

It is pretty good and you can still make some slight alterations if you want. Also I know their quality is really good and they can custom make it just for you, they also have her shoes, which is the hardest thing for any Tales of cosplay.

Oh I will definitely buy the shoes unless I can find some white boots for a good price that I can just add some ribbon too.

I will keep them in mind, definitely in case it fails, but I do want to try to make my own at first. If I'm really struggling I will purchase one.

The wig is also something I will need to buy.

Wigs are difficult because of how flat most of them are, hair volume is usually terrible. Let me know when you are going to get one and I will help you look for a good one

If it didn't have the lace up top I think I could make it work. I wonder how well the lace is attached.

Thanks so much for all your help. I do noticed that in a lot of cosplay pictures. Hair looks flat in a bunch and I wonder how to make it look more volumized. I'm already aware how to make the skirt look more volumized and will buy a petticoat for it when I get or make it.

It's honestly really close to what I'm looking for. I figured I wasn't going to find one without buttons, but I can live them them for the bow thingie to cover it and even maybe help me attached it to them with a button hole.

This one might work because it hides the buttons, but not sure if it would be easy to rework the collar.

I guess I could also try a plain turtle neck to get the collar I want, the fabric will just be different. Do you guys think the stretchy cotton will work for her top?

You can do it i think it doesn't seem to complicated. but I dunno anything about cosplay lol but maybe a turtle neck would look plain

Well I would have to alter the turtleneck as well. If I can't find a short one I would have to trim it so I don't have that fold over look and then I would have to add the arm pieces as well as the lace to the neck and arm cuffs. So it won't look plain when I'm done with it. Plus the other piece will go over it as well. Which I'm now thinking if I can find a cheap corset I can use that as a base for the red piece so it will stand in place. Otherwise I might have to add boning into it myself to make sure it stays up. Which I might have some boning lying around if I didn't throw it out.

But my concerns with the turtleneck is that the fabric is more relaxed then a dress shirt would be, but it would give me the basic shape I need to alter it and wouldn't have buttons going up the front.
