I was searching for an appropriate place to put this and briefly considered the manga section but reconsidered it so hopefully this is an appropriate spot.
In case you are unaware of what a light novel is, they are slightly bigger than a novella, use various otaku tropes as well as containing occasional images to convert your mind's eye into 2D imagery. I have several light novels in my collection, for instance, Haruhi novels as well as Vampire Hunter D. These are their original forms, created before their manga came out. However, it appears that Otaku in the west prefer to collect the manga editions of these series rather than the light novel versions. This is a shame as it prevents various franchises from coming over. One example is Baccano which is based on a much longer Light Novel series. However, we still have no sign of this novels being translated despite the anime being quite popular. I love anime and manga visuals as much as the next guy but what I really love is the style of stories and characters and this can be found in the written word as well. Recently, Yen Press announced that the Sword Art Online and Accel World novels are coming over. However, I fear that the general population of Otaku will reject these novels simply because they are written rather than drawn.
Now for my questions. Firstly, does anyone here also collect light novels? Secondly, why do you collect/not collect light novels? I am very interested in see your answers.
