So this thread is basically your thoughts on the manga Attack on Titan. On the 50th episode: Eren punches a titan while he is in human form, and other titans rush to save him. Why exactly do they do this? How titans came to exist: I did some research online, and everyone seems to be coming to the same conclusion that people burned down a scientists house, killing his family, so he creates a serum that turns humans into human hating machines, then pours it into the drinking water supply. It's also said that Eren's dad fixes the mess, thus why everyone says he saved them. Apparently all this came from a post one of the main writers for Attack on Titan put online.

Shingeki no Kyojin is a breath of fresh air when it comes to both anime and manga, it's new and exciting with many twists, it's own world, and a broad rang of characters. The animation is fantastic in terms of flow especially when it comes to using the gear. The biggest difference for me is the art in the anime is better than in the manga. Though the manga will always be amazing because it was the beginning of this wonderful story the anime will most likely always be better in terms of presentation.
The only thing I can say for sure is this will be a story we all look back fondly on in the years to come, with no nostalgia glass on. It will always be as amazing as it is now.
