I'm kind of an unusual case. I grew up in a country where anime was (and I believe still is) broadcasted on TV every afternoon just as kids came home from school, where it's considered a pretty popular form of entertainment and attracts a sizeable fanbase. So I don't recall my very first anime because I remember watching several shows back to back every afternoon on TV, but I will say that the very first anime I remember loving is Ninja Senshi Tobikage which was released in the 80s. It's a mecha anime that's definitely aged and unfortunately doesn't hold up very well by today's standards, but it will always hold a special place in my heart as the first anime I remember getting super excited about when I was around 5 or 6 years old. Wow you must be pretty lucky then. I would have loved that and even now. Other than the occasional "kids" animes (pokemon, dragonball) the only anime that is shown on TV where I live plays at night only on Saturdays. Mine was also Clannad! I would google silly things like "Shows like Clannad" and be looking through yahoo answers for more series to watch. I used to do that a lot too when I started lol Lol same here. I was such a newbie back then.

Of course I loved Dragonball, Pokemon, Digimon, etc. But back then I wasn't aware these shows were from Japan, so I can't count them. When I was aware that anime existed in the early 2000s, the one that changed my life and led me down the path of otaku would be Tokyo Mew Mew. It holds a special place in my heart to this day.

Like alot of you, I was watching Pokemon, Dragonball and Sailor Moon when I was young but yeah, didn't know that was actually anime. What really got me into anime was Vampire Knight, as soon as I started watching an episode I was hooked. Yeah, been collecting and watching anime ever since

Vampire Knight is a really good anime, if I wasn't already watching it before I know it would have turned me.

You are new here so quick back story, my boyfriend and I take turns picking anime. So Dan/Spoon (WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO CALL YOU HERE?!?) hasn't seen it yet, so that's what I picked for this round

Dan/Spoon/Kerospoon/Manly Mcbeefy/etc. Anyhow, I started off with Dragonball even though i didn't know what anime was. It wasn't until I watched Case Closed late at night on Adult Swim that I got hooked.

I grew up watching sailormoon, inuyasha and case closed. Somewhere along the way I stop watching anime until I entered middle. I came home one day and my mom showed me the shows she used to watch as a kid, most of them were anime. At the time we didn't know it was called anime, so we both sat down and watch old animes called "candy candy, lalabel, lady Georgie, Astro boy and etc. ever since then my whole family got into it except for dad, but he likes listening to k pop and j pop music

The first animes I ever watched, even before knowing what anime was, were : Ranma 1/2, Sgt Frog and Tokyo Mew Mew. The first anime that introduced to the anime world was Naruto. But if I hadn't watched other series, I probably wouldn't have been the anime fan I am now. Then, are the 2 anime that definitively made me an anime fan : Death Note and Inuyasha. These series are both amazing and I'm glad I was pulled by these two. From that point, I just wanted to see more and more.

When I was young I watched Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Beyblades and Cardcaptors. However, the anime that got me interested in anime were the Ghibli films and Naruto. I watched the Ghibli films and was blown away by them. I bought all of them before I moved onto series. I watched Devil May Cry and Sengoku Basara first but then I watched Naruto and loved it. That is what made me decide to continue getting anime.

The first anime that hooked me was 1.Tokyo Mew Mew (4kids tv) and 2.Fruits Basket(library dvd). I was way more into manga before I learned about the wide world of internet anime, so manga was probably my actual gateway drug into anime.

its hard to say I started with sailor moon or pokemon...idk which one and at the time they were just cartoons to me and I also liked alot of the card game shows and sonicx when it was just starting and thats all I ever watched and kind of knowing it was anime so it holds a special (dont really like the bigger half of the fanbase that wont stop reminding me its a thing...hey at least I can say I was the target demographic or at least the target age X3 when I watched it) and all of them have a place in my heart ANYWAY a few years ago my friends wouldn't stop talking about this "amazing" show and would say "spencer you would love it" and "spencer you have to watch it" and that show is soul eater :3 and it is still my favorite anime to this day and it got me into anime and also got me all my high school friends..... with out it I would be friendless so yeah

Been watching anime since I was 4 (currently 20) but never knew about anime until in my teens. I just thought as them as cartoons from japan, never knew there was a term. Of course living in America I would jus simply watch what'ever was on tv and nothing off the internet until I was like around 17/18 . So of course I watched all those shows in toonami and everything else like yugioh, bey blades ,,"digimon, pokemon, etc. first anime to bring me to anime is dragon ball z. Animes that made me into an otaku would have to be bleach, death note, and code geass.
