Sailor Moon was my first anime ever and will always hold a special place in my heart, but I didn't know what anime was back then and when I started to get into the world it wasn't an instant leap for me. The anime I think that got me into the world of Anime was Witchblade. I was drawn in by the storyline as I had already seen the english tv show before, but the anime was so much better for me. I really cared for the characters. It made me laugh and cry. The action scenes and sci fi elements also drew me to love it. After watching it I wanted to see more. I haven't looked back since.
So how about you? What anime got you into anime?

I remember watching anime as a kid. Like Dragonball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Sailor Moon. But at the time I didnt know they were anime. And I stopped watching when I got older. Until my sophomore year of high school, when I was browsing on Netflix and I came across Fullmetal Alchemist. I was so sucked into the story, I watched it all in no time. Then I went on to fullmetal alchemist brotherhood. I loved it so much. That when I finished. I went on to watch almost all the anime on Netflix. Now I love anime so much, I just cant get enough of it. But till this day FMA Brotherhood is my favorite series.

I would admit I watched a lot of Sailor Moon with my sister as a kid and CardCaptor Sakura. On my own time I watched and still love to this day Cowboy Bebop, G Gundam & Gundam Wing. I watched a lot of Dragon Ball as a kid but didn't like it as much as others did. (Probably because the episodes kept showing randomly and I just found shows like Cowboy Bebop or Rurouni Kenshin more entertaining for me) EDIT: Now that someone mentioned it below. I loved BeyBlade!!! I would buy so many tops and just play with my friends. Yugioh and it's cards played the same part too. Pokemon and Digimon will always have a place in my heart too

Well first anime I have ever saw was probably Pokémon but I was young then and didn't understand what it was as I grew up I watched Beyblades, yu gi oh, digimon and I still did not know what it was called after I lossed interest in those I started playing online games, while staying up all night playing games on the computer I think is around 08/09 ish I clicked on hellsing on youtube watched it and finished it and thought it was awesome so I looked into it and that's when I found the community of Anime, and been on and off since that time and here I am in 2013 watching anime and reading manga's.
So I would say my first anime was Hellsing.

Now granted it's quite an emotional anime but it's one of my very favorites. After I watched the entire Clannad series I started looking up more anime. Before I knew it I was watching anime every day and wanting to read about it as well.

I think it was the first one that I watched like that.

I was a little sad when I finished the entire Clannad series. But then I found Kanon and Air which both reminded me a lot of Clannad.

Well, I watched Naruto as a kid just thinking it was a cartoon, but the first anime I viewed, knowing it was anime, was Deathnote.

The First Anime I ever watched was "Astro Boy" I was 3 year's old when i saw it on TV, and then i got into animes like "Space Battleship Yamato" "The Rose of Versailles" "GoShogun" mostly the 80's-90's animes, which i was born in 1993, i also grew up with pokemon/dragonball,etc and so on. but now i see that anime has went downhill, not to be rude, i do like the anime today, but anime doesn't much have what they showed in the 80's 90's, like gore, etc now its all cute anime girls, with 1 male character, i don't know why its like that now,
but for me my favorite anime series of all time has to be dragonball/blue gender/elfen lied/City Hunter/Patlabor/Ranma ½/Brave Exkaiser/sailor moon/Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water/Future GPX Cyber Formula/YuYu Hakusho/fist of the north star/Tekkaman Blade/Yadamon/The Brave Express Might Gaine/ the Gundam series/Ghost Sweeper Mikami/Nintama Rantarō/Blue Seed/Brave Police J-Decker/bleach/naruto/attack on titan/Macross 7/Magic Knight Rayearth/Mahōjin Guru Guru/Metal Fighter Miku/DNA²/gunslinger girl/Tico of the Seven Seas/Neon Genesis Evangelion/one piece/ so many more. i have seen over maybe 300 anime series in my lifetime, but those in that list is most of my favorites

I'm kind of an unusual case. I grew up in a country where anime was (and I believe still is) broadcasted on TV every afternoon just as kids came home from school, where it's considered a pretty popular form of entertainment and attracts a sizeable fanbase. So I don't recall my very first anime because I remember watching several shows back to back every afternoon on TV, but I will say that the very first anime I remember loving is Ninja Senshi Tobikage which was released in the 80s. It's a mecha anime that's definitely aged and unfortunately doesn't hold up very well by today's standards, but it will always hold a special place in my heart as the first anime I remember getting super excited about when I was around 5 or 6 years old.

Wow you must be pretty lucky then. I would have loved that and even now. Other than the occasional "kids" animes (pokemon, dragonball) the only anime that is shown on TV where I live plays at night only on Saturdays. Mine was also Clannad! I would google silly things like "Shows like Clannad" and be looking through yahoo answers for more series to watch. I used to do that a lot too when I started lol
